Canada tackles the internet: Here's a job title you might not have seen before
Digital Safety Commissioner of Canada.
The job, if the Liberal (?) government’s online harms bill creating the new regulator position passes in the fall, would focus on enforcing rules requiring online platforms to remove illegal content. As Anja Karadeglija of Canada's National Post newpaper reports, critics have some concerns, perhaps best suggested by the following description: The Digital Safety Commissioner's authority would include the ability to send inspectors into workplaces and homes in search of documents, software, and information such as computer algorithms.
Editors Note: Authoritarian rule begins when government official can come into your home and rummage through your private documents in the name of national security (the old excuse) or (the new excuse) ensuring social justice.
